Eyebag Removal (Blepharoplasty)
PRE-OPERATIVE General
- Eyesight should be checked prior to surgery. - Report any symptoms
of excessively watery or dry eyes. Medical problems
- NB thyroid or kidney disease may cause swelling of the eyelids.
Existing wrinkles
- The operation will not remove all wrinkles around the eyes, especially
laughter lines. Drugs
- Avoid aspirin/ibuprofen type analgesics for 3 weeks prior to surgery.
Smoking
- Advisable to stop at least 3 weeks prior to surgery and until wounds
are fully healed or at least 2 weeks after.
OPERATION Upper eyelid
- Scar in natural crease line about 1 cm above eyelashes. Extends
into "crow's feet" area. Lower eyelid
- Scar just below eyelashes or inside eyelid. May extend out into
natural crease. Fat removal
- Bulging fat removed as necessary for upper and lower lids. Sutures
- Pullout sutures, removed after 5 days. Dressings
- Steri-strips or Micropore tape removed at 5 days.
POST-OPERATIVE Cleaning
- Gently clean eyes with warm water after 48 hours. Do not rub eyes.
Exercise
- Avoid vigorous exercise for 1 week after surgery. Do not bend down
for the first 3 days following surgery. Sit up at night as much as
possible. Care of scars - Gentle massage with simple moisturizing
or arnica cream once sutures removed. Eye ointment - May
be prescribed for use after operation.
